The 18th annual Aerial Dance Festival in Boulder, CO recently brought together aerial artists from across the U.S., as well as abroad, for two weeks of training, networking, and soaking up the beauty of Boulder. Attendees came from all over ranging from Lake Tahoe, CA to Madison WI, to Hawaii, to New Zealand, Costa Rica, and Canada. August 1-12th , 2016 was jam packed for attendees and faculty alike with a full schedule of various aerial technique and composition classes, floor based “give your arms a rest” classes, open gyms, and evening workshops covering topics like industry promotion, object manipulation, make-up and costuming, clowning, Thai massage, and more. Our Trapeze Adventure Begins with Single-Point Dance Trapeze at Canopy Studio
Here at AerialDancing.com, we are starting a new chapter of aerial dancing by studying the trapeze. More specifically, we are starting with the single-point trapeze because it is more closely tied to dance, an aspect that we love to include with our aerial. Look for tons of videos (already a huge batch just released!) in our video library over the coming months.
If you are going to study single-point dance trapeze, there is no better place to do it than Canopy. Canopy Studio was founded by Susan Murphy in 2002. Canopy has a rich history as being one of the very first, brave studios in the country to focus on aerial with a recreational, dance approach. Single-point trapeze is not known as a traditional circus apparatus, and this helped the Canopy community to establish itself on the map as a way to approach circus movement from a brand new perspective. Powerful Cueing; Making a Good Teacher GREAT!
After leading a teacher training recently, my thoughts turned once again to teacher topics and what makes a great teacher stand out above a good teacher. Good teachers keep students safe. They set up a safe environment through safe rigging and mats; they use proper progressions to ensure a student works at the correct level of moves; and they are respectful of all their students.
